We've had the pleasure of working for Lifeway on a few titles over the years and a handful of their Spanish publications. With this illustration, we were given much liberty stylistically, which was a nice break from the usual constraints, and we took advantage of it! We're huge fans of Japanese animation powerhouse Studio Ghibli and so we chose to push the illustration in that direction. We wanted the piece to feel like a still frame from an animation, so we rendered the background in a very painterly and realistic manner striving to emulate the masterful works of their background painters. And then we illustrated the character with line art, flat color and cel shading as if his pose was just one of hundreds needed to animate the sequence!
